Key Differences Between Relief Valves and Pressure-Reducing Valves
Relief valves and pressure-reducing valves, two common hydraulic components, differ in several key aspects.
In terms of structure, relief valves typically have a handle, while pressure-reducing valves do not. For connections, relief valves’ outlets link to oil tanks, and they are mostly parallelly installed in hydraulic systems. Pressure-reducing valves’ outlets connect to actuators and are connected in series in the systems.
When not working, relief valves stay closed, whereas pressure-reducing valves remain normally open. The source of hydraulic control force also varies: relief valves get it from the inlet, and pressure-reducing valves from the outlet.
Functionally, relief valves limit, maintain and stabilize pressure in hydraulic systems. Pressure-reducing valves, on the other hand, mainly reduce and stabilize pressure.
